Laurence Svirchev, CIH, has a 38 year career in Occupational Health and Safety.
He spent a decade as a research assistant and industrial hygienist at the the Division of Epidemiology, Biometry and Occupational Epidemiology of the BC Cancer Agency. In 1992 he obtained a Bachelor of Science from The Montana School Of Mines In Occupational Health And Safety. In 1994, he joined the Worker's Compensation Board of British Columbia, working as an Occupational Hygiene Officer and as a Fatalities Investigator, investigating over 25 workplace fatalities. In 2010, he received an Master of Arts in Disaster and Emergency Management from Royal Roads University. His field investigation in Sichuan China after the Wenchuan Earthquake was developed into a thesis titled “Evaluation of China's Earthquake Disaster Management Systems”.
Mr. Svirchev retired from the Worker's Compensation Board and began international hygiene and safety consulting with a large Chinese construction company, working in China, the South Pacific, and in the Sahel region of Africa. He is currently working as an industrial hygiene and safety consultant in British Columbia. He has authored and co-authored 17 peer-reviewed articles in the industrial hygiene, disaster management, and geology literature and is an active member of the BC-Yukon local of the American Industrial Hygiene Association.
